Poetic License

Torina

Soft, soft
milk
lick, lick
meow, meow
sniffy
purring
loving.
If you hit her she will scratch.
So pat her and be nice,
and let her on the couch.
Little tongue.

Lately I've been messing around with having Lily make up some poetry. I read something about 5 senses poetry, which is a method used to get young kids started in making up their own poems. By using their 5 senses a very young child can begin to articulate how they perceive something and have it written down into a poem.

Lily is 3 1/2 years old right now. She loves taking an object or something she saw and telling me about it while I jot it down. When we are done with one she proudly clips it to the refrigerator and has her dad read it before he can even get his keys set down.

I had meant to share this back in September but you know how life goes. So I figured I'd share a few of the ones that we've done. I think it's a neat way to get a young child to really think about something and then find the words to describe it. I have an idea of what I'm going to do when I get a bunch of them collected but we'll get to that when the time comes.

Soft leaves

Yellow and green

When you step on them they make noise.

They are falling down.
